Sticking Together

I wake to the sound of someone pounding on Drew’s front door.

“What the--” Drew mumbles, then crawls out of bed, running his fingers through his hair as he strides to the door. He looks adorable with his wavy hair sticking out in all directions, scruff on his face, and wearing a pair of pajama pants and a T-shirt.

He cracks the door then looks over his shoulder at me. “We have a bed.”

I straighten, then hurry to the bathroom to change. When I emerge, two men already have the twin-sized bed set up next to Drew's, and are positioning mattresses in place. When finished, they gather the garbage into their arms. Drew thanks them, slipping them a tip on their way out the door.

Drew's scratching his head when I walk up behind him and wrap my arms around his waist. “Unexpected?”

“Not after last night's conversation.”

I take a deep breath and stare at the ceiling. “Guess what?”

“What?”

“We get to go shopping again. I need sheets.”

Drew rolls his eyes. “All this for a few nights?”

I tug on his arm, and we sit on the new bed. I bounce a couple times. “It's not so bad. You won't have to wake up to my dragon breath anymore.”

“That is a bonus,” he says, smirking. “Maybe we can go shopping after we visit Rachel. But first, a movie.” He grins, then picks me up, dumping me onto his bed in a heap. I squeal, and he runs to his desk, grabbing his laptop and jumping onto the mattress next to me. He clicks through several screens until he finds the movie he's looking for.

Princess Bride begins to play, and I laugh. “Seriously? This is more important than breakfast?”

“Absolutely.” He jumps off the bed during opening credits and returns with two bottles of orange juice and a bag of M&M's. “Better?”

“Much.” I grin, snatching the M&M's from him. “Breakfast of champions.”

I stifle laughter as he recites nearly all the lines with the characters. He grins at me every time Westley says, 'as you wish'. I like--no love--this side of Drew.

After the movie, he shows me his playlists. There's a little bit of everything.

“What type of music do you like the most?” I ask.

“That depends. For working out, I like the harder stuff. If I'm feeling nostalgic, I'll break out classic rock because that's what my dad loved. Or some 80's stuff because that's what my mom used to listen to. If I’m studying, it’s jazz or classical.”

“What's your favorite memory as a kid?”

“Hmm. That's a tough one,” he says, tossing an M&M into the air and catching it in his mouth. I try to do the same, but the candy hits my mouth and ricochets off and under the bed. I try again, but this time it hits my tooth. Drew chuckles, and tosses another M&M into the air, catching it in his mouth.

“Show off.”

He grins. “I think my favorite memory as a kid was fly fishing with my dad. He had this fold up rod he stowed on his motorcycle.
